In our daily lives, reducing the impact we have on the environment is something that we are personally reflecting on often. So naturally weaving the same values into our business is significantly important to us.

Here are some of the values we are pursuing and why its not so easy for all flower businesses to do so:

Sustainable Blooms 101

Reducing Carbon Footprint:

Choosing locally farmed flowers significantly reduces the carbon footprint associated with transportation. Imported flowers often travel long distances, consuming fossil fuels and emitting greenhouse gases along the way, Not to mention, impacting the longevity of the flowers. In contrast, locally farmed flowers have a shorter journey from farm to event venue, minimizing transportation-related emissions.

The down side here is the limitations of flower choice. If the color is not available or if the season ends early we have to choose flexibility with the flower options or stick to the designs with imported flowers. Each client is different so we tailor this to your needs.

Foam free:

Originally invented in the 50’s, flower foam was a revolutionary product that helped with efficiency in designing arrangements, keeping flowers hydrated and avoiding the shifting of stems during transportation. It’s a staple in the industry but has received a lot of criticism for leaving behind micro plastics that cannot be filtered out of our water.

Luckily there is a surge of education, new foam free products and returning to flower mechanics and techniques that were common before the popularization of foam.

We are fully foam free with all our designs!

Managing waste:

Large scale events unfortunately do produce plenty of waste, from food to packaging to flowers. And until January of 2023 there was no mandate for homes or businesses to participate in green waste composting. Still, most businesses in Los Angeles and many homes have not been supplied with green bins to facilitate this.

We hope that this will make it simple for everyone to dispose compostables properly. Until we have a green bin, we will continue scheduled offs at the LA City Sanitation compost drop off.
